What does it mean to foster in Hackney. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
"The primary duty of the local authority is to safeguard and promote the welfare of a child who is looked after"..... The majority of children are cared for by their parents or a close relative. Many families experience problems from time to time and where appropriate Hackney's social services are here to help them. If the family has such difficulties that the child cannot live at home then an alternative must be found. It is our responsibility to first try to place the child within their own family but where this is not possible we will often seek to place them with a suitable foster carer. Foster care is the preferred way of providing for children living away from their families for a number of reasons.
Hackney like most local authorities, needs to find more foster carers to help us provide this support for families. We want people from a wide range of backgrounds to best match the needs of different children. Whilst we especially encourage Hackney residents to apply we also welcome applicants from all surrounding boroughs as well.
