The fostering social worker who carries out your Home Study will be continually discussing with you the age, sex, cultural background and family background of the child or children you might be considered suitable to foster and who you might also feel would be suitable for your family.
When your home study report is completed it will make a recommendation about whether you should be approved or not. The report will be presented to Hackneys Fostering Panel who will make a decision about whether to endorse this recommendation or not. This panel consists of social workers and independent people. All will have read the report and agree to meet on a specific date to discuss it. The panel will decide if you are to be approved and if so, the number and age range of the child or children that you are approved to foster.
You will be informed of the decision promptly, If your application is turned down you will be given an explanation for this decision. Applicants do have the right to appeal against this decision if they feel that it is unjust.
The next stage in the process of becoming a foster carer is concerned with preparing you for the placement of a child.
