Hackney is a London Borough rich in diversity. It is made up of sizeable populations from 23 different ethnic groups. More than 37 different languages are spoken in the homes of Hackney people.
It is this religious, ethnic and social diversity that makes Hackney an exciting and vibrant place in which to live and work. Social workers employed by Hackney Council reflect the multi cultural community and come from a wide range of ethnic and religious groups. It creates an environment in which we never stop learning about each other and broadening our understanding on differing life styles and belief systems. We hope that this learning leads to improved services and greater respect for each other and the children and families with whom we work. By appreciating our differences we can share our commonalties. We feel that this in turn enriches our lives and the work we undertake.
Children in need of foster and adoptive homes come from a very wide range of ethnic backgrounds and heritages. We actively welcome foster carers from all sections of the community and are proud of the work we have done to attract carers of all ages , ethnic groups and backgrounds. Our carers enrich our practice and widen the range of families available to children in need. Foster carers coming to Hackney can share the friendships and positive learning that comes from working within such a fantastically varied Borough and hopefully will bring their own culture, religion and values to our service and to our continuing work with children.
