Anyone interested in adoption can complete our on line form or you can telephone our Adoption Team. Our social worker will take some basic details and try to answer any initial questions you may have.
Alternatively, you can write to the Team Manager at Room 202, Adoption & Fostering, 205 Morning Lane, London, E9 6JX. If you do this please it will be very helpful if you can also tell us about:
The names and ages of all members of your household. |
Brief details of your accommodation. |
If you are a couple the date of your marriage / length of cohabitation. (Whichever is applicable) |
If you are undergoing, or have undergone, any medical treatment for childlessness. |
The number, sex and age-range of children who you may be interested in adopting. |
Your enquiry will then be discussed at one of our team meetings and if it seems possible that we could consider you as a prospective adopter, a Social Worker will make arrangements to visit you. This visit is mainly to advise you further about the process of adoption, to check that there are no issues that we need to be aware of at an early stage, and to give you the chance to find out more about adoption in Hackney.
Your enquiry will then be discussed at one of our team meetings and if we were able to go forward with your assessment you would also be invited to one of our preparation groups. Please see the next page for more details.
If, at any stage, it is decided not to pursue your application, you will be given the reasons for this decision. If you are not satisfied wiith that decision, you may ask for a further discussion, or write to the `head of Looked After Children to ask them to consider your request to apply to adopt again.
